ABSTRACT - The article presents discriminatory elements of the publishing process that researchers who submit articles to international journals have identified: the role of hierarchies and the consequences of this prejudice for the Brazilians’ editorial act. Research groups on Bioenergy, from the University of Brasilia (UNB), EMBRAPA Agroenergy, and the Luiz de Queiroz School of Agriculture, of the University of São Paulo (ESALQ/USP) have been carried out this study since 2019. Semi-structured interviews and content analysis were used through the NVIVO qualitative analysis software. As a result, we report publishing prejudice due to language and asymmetric collaboration networks and, when tracing strategies to counter prejudice, a tendency to reinforce hegemonic editorial patterns of the global north.
